PE and Sports Funding
The government is currently providing additional funding of £150 million to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. Primary schools receive an £8000 lump sum and £5 for every child over the age of 5 years. This funding - provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport - will be allocated to primary school headteachers.
This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools. -DFE Guidelines.
To see the impact of the Sports Premium Funding in school and how we are using this years allocation to further improve see the toolkit below.

Increased Participation Rates:
Our PE/Sports questionnaire results show that participation rates are up and pupils are more actively engaging with activities:
90% pupils like PE;
84% like PE more this year;
67% have started a new physical club/ sport this year;
100% have tried a new sport this year;
50% have represented the school at a competitive event;
80% of those eligible are in a team.
100% of Year 5 and Year 6 can swim at least the National Curriculum requirment of 25m and perform self rescue from water. Sports Premium is used to offer additional Life Saving and Water Safety sessions in Years 5 & 6. Pupils have a term of swimming lessons in Year 2, 3 and 4.
Reepham School has invested its funding in the best possible resources to provide an enjoyable, engaging and varied sports curriculum. The school uses professional sports coaches, to advise and support our curriculum. Our coaches include a talent scout and team GB members, they work alongside our teachers and enhance the coaching that was already in place.
We have improved our outdoor provision to include a designated custom sports area, and we have made adaptions to our field to make it more accessible. We have sports equipment outside at all playtimes and have invested into pupil training with the Playmakers scheme.
Every child from Year 1 up has 1 of their PE session with a coach, this has been so successful we also use coaches to cover some PPA sessions but this is paid through core budget not Sports Premium. The coaches are monitored by the school and provide outstanding lesson, which ensure pupils make the best progress across the curriculum. These coaches also up-skill school staff to make high quality PE and Sports in our school sustainable. Coaches and teachers work alongside each other to improve confidence and monitor progress. As a result teachers have increased subject knowledge and competence.
Over the last year the school has worked with professional coaches to produce an assessment and tracking program so we can ensure all pupils make progress in physical activities and sport. This includes formative assessment for each area, which looks at understanding and application of technical ability as well as completing certain tasks. This allows us to ensure attainment can be monitored and improved.
The school also has set up a program of competitive sports. We have relaunched our Football team and we also have a Cross-County running squad. We also take part in Swimming Galas and other inter-school sports including competitive Rugby, Netball, Multi-Skill, Cricket and Rounder’s events.
We hold an annual Sports Week where we invite Olympic Athletes in to motivate pupils as well as promote a healthy lifestyle and showcase different sports they may want to get involved in. This year we had a hugely successful climbing wall and a highly popular 'new age Curling' event which was so popular the School Council invested in the curling equipment and we are adding this to our curriculum!
We use sports week as an opportunity to signpost pupils towards different and diverse activities. We have inspired pupils to participate in new, diverse activities, which we differentiate for their needs. This has resulted in increased participation and engagement!
We have also enhanced our provision with timetable alteration and additional resources, pupils receive 2 hours of PE a week and we have extended Swimming lessons, now beginning these beginning these in Year 2.
