RE Curriculum

At Reepham Church of England Primary School, we believe every child has unique gifts that deserve to be nurtured. Through challenge, creativity and curiosity, we help pupils grow into confident individuals who feel included, known and loved. Our RE curriculum plays an important role in supporting this vision by helping children explore big questions, understand different world views, and develop compassion, courage and resilience.

Our Theological Foundation

Our approach to Religious Education is rooted in the belief that every person has God-given gifts:

  • “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another…”1 Peter 4:10
  • “Every good and perfect gift is from above…”James 1:17

These values shape the way we teach, learn and grow together.

The Purpose of RE at Reepham

RE is a core part of our curriculum. Its purpose is to help pupils develop religion and worldview literacy – the ability to hold balanced, well-informed conversations about religion and belief.

Children learn to:

  • Build knowledge of Christianity and other major world religions
  • Understand how beliefs influence individuals, communities and cultures
  • Explore important moral and spiritual questions
  • Reflect on their own beliefs and values
  • Show respect and tolerance for people with different faiths and world views

This learning prepares pupils for life in modern Britain and helps nurture a community where everyone feels valued.

What We Teach

Our RE curriculum follows the Lincolnshire Locally Agreed Syllabus.

Children take part in meaningful discussions, handle religious artefacts, explore stories, examine sacred texts, and reflect on their own ideas and experiences.

Time Allocation

We meet the Church of England’s recommendation that RE should make up at least 5% of curriculum time.  Pupils will have 1 hour of RE a week, and it is taught as a discrete subject. In the Early Years Foundation Stage, learning is woven into the wider curriculum through themes, stories and play.

Visits and Visitors

We believe that first-hand experiences bring learning to life. Pupils take part in:

  • Visits to local places of worship
  • Talks and workshops from faith and belief representatives
  • Opportunities to explore different world views as real living traditions

These activities help children deepen their understanding and ask thoughtful questions.

Meeting the Needs of All Pupils

RE is taught to all pupils. Teachers adapt lessons to meet a wide range of needs, ensuring every child can succeed. The subject also contributes to pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

Parents will receive an annual report and part of it will indicate their child’s progress in RE.

Withdrawal from RE

Parents have the legal right to withdraw their child from RE lessons if they wish. Before making a final decision, we are always happy to discuss how RE is taught at Reepham C of E Primary School.

If a withdrawal is requested, written notice should be given to the RE Subject Leader or Head Teacher and pupils who are withdrawn will remain supervised in school during this time.
